Are you planning a family trip to Miami over the holidays? How fun! It’s a great chance to escape the cold and enjoy some family time, and there’s so much to see and do in Miami that you’re definitely not going to get bored.
Like any trip, traveling to Miami with kids can be a little more stressful. Luckily, we’ve got some top tips to help make the whole trip go more smoothly:
Plan in advance
When you’re single and/or childfree, you don’t need to worry about things like scheduling in time for a nap (unless you’ve had a rough night the night before), or age-appropriate activities. This all changes the moment you have kids, and while Miami is super family-friendly, it’s still a good idea to plan your trip in advance. Luckily, there are plenty of great blogs and websites with helpful advice to make choosing activities a breeze. Tripadvisor can also help you find the best places to go and things to do for your kids’ ages.

Rent a car
If there’s one thing you can do to cut down on the stress and make the trip go more smoothly, it’s car rental in Miami. When you rent a car, you’ve got the freedom to go wherever you want from the moment you arrive at the airport. This can also save you a ton of money on hotel shuttles, public transport, and even ride-sharing services like Uber and Lyft. Not to mention, you’ll easily be able to leave each place whenever you’re ready- so you can work around your kids.
Get out of Miami
Don’t get us wrong- we love Miami with kids. But some of the biggest attractions are just outside of the city. Head down to Keywest to watch the sunset and enjoy some watersports with the kids, take a trip to Orlando to visit all the theme parks, or learn about the wildlife in the Everglades.
If you rent a car in Miami, you can use it to take a bunch of road trips around the area- so you can really see a lot in a short amount of time.

Take it easy
Since there are so many great attractions in the area, it can be easy to over-schedule your time. And this can result in upset, tired kids, and the tantrums that go along with them. That’s why it’s a good idea to alternate between busy days and relaxing days. Spend some time at the beach, wander down the boardwalk, and take the kids to the park. This is also a good way for you to have some time to relax as well.
